Familia Unida's 6th Annual Wheelchair Wash

Familia Unida Living with MS Rolls Out the Red Carpet for Underserved and Disabled Communities to Celebrate 6th Annual Wheelchair Wash with Honorary Co-Chair Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard and Eva Longoria Parker.

More than 1,000 Angelenos Living with Disabilities to be Treated to Free VIP Day LOS ANGELES (September 22, 2009) – Familia Unida Living with MS today announced that it will host the 6th Annual Wheelchair Wash, a one-day celebration for the disabled in recognition of Disability Awareness Month on Saturday, October 3rd from 10AM to 6PM at 4716 East Cesar E. Chavez Ave. Los Angeles County residents will be treated to a free event that includes food, entertainment, and pampering – from washing and waxing their wheelchairs or scooters to haircuts, makeovers, manicures, and massages. "The Wheelchair Wash embraces diversity and a reminder that people living with a disability merit equal opportunities for employment and social engagement… encouraging all to be more inclusive” says Irma Resendez, Founder and Executive Director of Familia Unida Living with MS. Familia Unida serves more than 15,000 clients each year living with Multiple Sclerosis and various disabilities.

Since 1990, Familia Unida has continued to bring attention to healthcare, benefits advisement, questionable health insurer practice, available resources and educational programs for the disabled. Familia Unida is committed to providing unconditional love, hope and support to those living with MS and disabilities in hopes of maximizing their quality of life.

“It is my great pleasure to act as honorary co-chair of this year’s Wheelchair Wash Event, which supports critical Familia Unida programs, such as Ticket to Work, that are more important now than ever. As the first organization in the county designed to help Spanish-speakers with Multiple Sclerosis, I commend Familia Unida for the services it provides in the Latino community and its invaluable support for all persons with disabilities in my 34th Congressional District,” says Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard
