Concept of The Wheelchair Wash

The Concept of Familia Unida’s Annual Wheel Chair Wash became a reality when Founder Irma Resendez was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and became paralyzed for almost a year and used an electric wheelchair/scooter. Irma experienced feelings of isolation prejudice and discrimination after her disability. One of Irma’s dreams was to bring awareness to the fact, that people living with a disability have many abilities and to bring communities together to see for them selves how we are not so different after all. Irma’s vision was to get enough volunteers to pamper those who many times feel alone by giving people with disability a day of V.I.P treatment which includes the washing of their wheelchairs and electric scooters, tune up and a wax too.

Sharing this vision with the Familia Unida team lead to other goodies, like including a hair cut, manicure, live entertainment, and why not a massage? Each year the Familia Unida wheelchair wash celebration is more exciting than the previous one because of the support from community partners, elected officials, volunteers, and friends from all over the place, who join us to give unconditional love and gifts to many beautiful people who will remember this day always.
